Wood Sculptures and Metal Art

The bench of nails is using recycled metal with underlying wooden structure. This unique wood sculptures is made by Jae Hyo Lee. The main structures are carved from a solid slab of wood and is cut, smoothed and scorched to fade it to the background. The nails are flatten out reveal their silver shine. With a dark wood as it’s background, the shining nails become more attractive.

The spacing of the nails and the shape of carved wood becomes a unique impression. The artist carefully bent the flatten out nails to create ripples of water effect into the bench surface. Jae Hyo Lee sees this process as a metaphor for both physical labor and the way in which such labor can create beauty.
